Souls NPCs
Maria LeBlanc
Very little is known about this mysterious heroine. She appeared at the heroes time of need and bailed them out of a very deadly situation. She seems very well armed and prepared for the dangers she claims exist out in the world. She lives in an abandoned/converted church, finding peace in sleeping on sanctified ground. She hopes the heroes will consider her offer to help her saved the "Souled" ones. She takes her job very serious and she seems to have endured a lot throughout the years.
A very religious person, Maria seems to have taken this mission to save the Souled ones very personally and takes every loss to heart. She is a member of small organization who have worked together to give humanity another chance at redemption.
Elijah Engel
A New York City firefighter, Elijah was recruited by Maria. Having witnessed many strange things in burning buildings before, Elijah's confrontation with the truth came when he encountered a Monstro de la Luz, or a light monster, inside of a raging fire at a factory. If it wasn't for the quick timing and actions of Maria, Elijah would have died to the creature that day. Since then he as discovered a latent ability to feel or sense the world around him, and has joined up with Maria and the others in hopes of saving lives.
Abraham Steingard
Father to Isaac, Abraham was the one who started the group in hopes of saving humanity. It is unclear what led him to the truth of the world around him, but Maria and the others believe that there were once others who worked with Abraham almost 20 years ago for the same goal. Abraham refuses to speak about it and Isaac doesn't remember that time. It was Abraham who helped his son Isaac understand the strange sights he saw during the war, and revealed the truth to him. Abraham was also the one who saved Maria from being attacked by Shriekers, and brought her into the organization.
Isaac Steingard
Abraham's only son, Isaac is ex-marine, and a very decorated officer. During his time overseas in both the Afghanistan and Iraq, Isaac witnessed countless strange creatures and events, including the death of some of his own men at the hands of what he could only call monsters. The deaths were attributed to IEDs and Isaac almost lost himself to post-traumatic stress and witnessing things no one would believe. It was his own father who would save his life before he became victim to the Faceless of his own men. Isaac knew his place was at his father's side facing the dangers of knowing the truth.
Like Elijah, Isaac has discovered a latent gift, but his is far more limited, only able to identify Souled humans at very close proximity.
Adam Walker
A 16 year old boy, Adam is what the medical community calls a miracle. Surviving with leukemia since the age of 8, Adam first defied doctor's predictions when he survived to the age of 10 and entered into remission. When he fell ill again at 12, he again proved to be a survivor when at the age of 13 he once again went into full remission. His most recent miraculous recovery occurred only recently. Having been diagnosed on his 16th birthday with a very aggressive relapse, doctors expected he would pass in 6 months. This time, not only did Adam go into remission, but there is no sign he has ever had the disease to begin with.
Adam has been identified by Isaac as being a Souled human, and appears to have abilities far more sensitive than either Isaac or Elijah. After the events at the motel, Maria and Elijah believe that Adam may indeed be the Denique Animus, the Final Soul, on whom all of humanity was to be judged, a product of all who came before him.
Hell Hounds
Vicious monsters of unknown origin, these hounds are some of the most deadliest hunters in existence. Abhorring all light, hell hounds travel in and even through any shadow they can find, all in hopes of finding Souled humans to kill. Unlike some of the more intelligent monsters, Hell Hounds often kill anything in the way of it and it's prey. Hell Hounds often look like large monstrous dogs, but their exact details are unknown as very few ever survive an attack. They bloodlust waxes and wanes with the moon, with the total darkness of a new moon bringing out the greatest numbers.
The Faceless
Faceless are created when a non-souled human is killed by a particularly vicious evil creature. Unable to create a ghost, since they lack a soul, most humans killed simply cease to exist. Some however, have their psychic imprint absorbed by the foul energies of the creature that killed it. Faceless are so named because they are believed to have no face, no one is sure since Faceless are unable to face any living being, forced to keep their back to anyone who looks upon them. Forcing a Faceless to look at you, by chasing it or trapping it will cause the creature that spawned the Faceless to appear and kill the unsuspecting victim. There are some more aggressive Faceless who try to get as close as possible to their victim, hoping they would be forced to show their face and kill the viewer.
Les Enfant Du Morte aka The Children of the Dead
Children of the Dead are made when an otherworldly being enters the body of a stillborn baby, causing it to draw breath. They are also known as the Deadborn. These evil children then grow normally until their deaths right before puberty, spreading as much terror as they can during their short life span. They feed off the strong emotions of living beings, causing these emotions to give their victims heart attacks. A Child of the Dead is more dangerous and powerful while it's host body is still alive, but it can cause some havoc once the body is a dead before it is forced to return to the other side. Some Children of the Dead can be forced to reveal the being inhabiting the body, allowing it to temporarily become real.
The Perverters
A true being of evil, the Perverters, also called the Defilers, and the Unclean, are true demons upon this earth. Though they do not have any one form, they do have some shared traits. A preverter's power lies in it's ability to warp something precious to it's victim, and change it into something horrible. This often leads the mind of the victim to fall into dismay, allowing the Perverter to literally feed on the victim's dispair and fear.
If their victims show any sign of resistance, they bear their numerous teeth, hoping the pain they inflict would nourish them.
