Souls - Chapter Three - Faith and Friends

Part Two

Frank drove quickly; winding his way through the ever busy streets of the city on his way to what Elijah called a safe house. It was some motel on the outskirts of town, but they first had to survive getting there. The hell hounds were after him again, he could see them as they leapt through the shadows of the alley ways. More and more headlights were replacing the dying daylight of dusk and he knew that those lights would help somewhat keep the hounds at bay.

Joe and Sam meanwhile still were trapped by the Death Child, and Joe suspected that there were more. He questioned Maria, trying to find if there is anyway to defeat or stop the Death Child, but could not accept that killing the host body was the only way. Eventually, as the threat grew, they hoped that holy water, used by someone with faith, might weaken the being. They prepared themselves, knowing if they were wrong, they would most likely run into their doom.

Frank headed for the bridge, weaving left and right whenever Adam told him too. The hounds, smarter than Frank expected, where jumping up through the shadow of the vehicle itself. Frank knew that Adam could sense the creatures, and that gift was saving his life. Frank drove across the bridge, the creatures risking dim light to get closer to the van. Coming at him from the left at one point, the right from another, and Frank realized, he was being herded. He reached the other side of the bridge and based on the last attack, they were herding him to a park, a nice dark park. Frank took a chance and drove towards the next attack, suddenly the creatures vanished. Adam reported, they were headed back.

Joe watched as Abraham, who had volunteered to use the holy water, walked towards the image of the boy, rosary outstretched, as if it were his shield against the evil of the Death Child. The boy mocked Abraham in Latin, calling in to question his faith, his strength, even his manhood. Abraham doused the boy with holy water, and it merely laughed. Suddenly, Abraham pressed his rosary into the forehead of the boy's image and a scream like no other pierced through the church. All of them could hear it, even feel it at it clawed at their skin.

Joe yelled at them to run, as they ran out the side door towards the remaining vehicle. Joe paused, as he could see several childlike images, screeching out in pain, none of the others could see them. Joe called for Abraham who jumped into the van just in time for them to start fleeing. They don't know why, but the children did not follow. They received word that the others had made it to the safe house and they followed suit.

Everyone reunited at the motel, informing each other of what had happened and trying to decide what to do next. Meanwhile, Adam stayed by his mom's side as she still had not recovered from the attack by the Death Child earlier. Frank, feeling a sense of unease and hoping to make sure everything was alright, decided to walk around the motel. He had begun to hear a strange squeaking noise, like a broken gate or a rusty swing. Joe meanwhile had decided to speak with Adam. He knew the boy had gone through a lot, and though he was strong willed, he was still a boy, and he knew that he had to explain some of what has happened in the last few hours, and why.

Frank, sure that the noise was getting worse, and fearing the children had somehow followed them, rushed back to Sam to inform her of what was going on. Joe exited the room, leaving Adam and his now awake mother, a few moments of privacy. They spoke only moments, before Sam and Joe both felt a cold pit in their stomach. Something very evil had just entered into their midst. As if on cue, a loud yell came from the upstairs room where Isaac and Abraham had gone to settle for the night. Suddenly Isaac's body was thrown out of the room, taking the door and himself over the railing and crashing on an SVU parked below.

Joe went to make sure Adam was alright while Frank rushed upstairs. He discovered Abraham on the floor, his rosary raised against another child, but this one was different. Her skin was pale and gaunt, as if she were nothing but skin and her bones. Her matted black hair barely covered her face, and unable to hide the deep black orbs that were her eyes. She stood there and stared at Frank. Her movements, jerky and sudden, each time accompanied by the noise of a rattle and crack, as if her bones were ancient and hollow.

Joe, finding the door locked, called out to Adam, telling him it was time to go. Adam, as if unaware of the situation, called out he needed a moment. Joe, feeling something wrong, tried again and again to call Adam out of the room but the boy would only delay, and finally refused to go. He and his mother were staying, they weren't going with them.

Frank, his weapon raised, asked if Abraham was alright, and what was this thing in front of them. Abraham did not know. Suddenly the girl's attention was drawn away as she stared at the ground, Frank realized it was in the direction of Adam's room and opened fire. The girl screeched, angered by the attack, she opened her mouth and a loud wail filled their ears as her mouth revealed rows of razor sharp teeth. Frank fired again and again, the bullets seeming to disrupt the girl's image, her body seeming to barely contain some wild shadow or darkness.

Joe could not wait anymore, with the help of Elijah, busted down the door an entered the room. Adam stood there, his mother seated on the bed, facing Adam but away from the others. Again he told Joe to leave. He wasn't going to live this life. He wasn't going to go with them; he was going to stay with his mother. Sam entered the room. She pressured the boy, pleaded with him in regards to the situation, and she pleaded with Adam's mother whose face she could not see. Adam's mother reached out, and pushed her son away, who did not want to go. Finally though, he left his mother's side, and into Sam's arms bawling. Sam watched as the body of Adam's mother fell backwards, her eyes rolled up. She was dead, and had been for some time.

Frank grabbed Abraham and started to run as Joe, who had heard the gun shots, was running up to help them. Suddenly, he, Sam, and Elijah all felt a great weight they didn't notice vanish. It was the same time that Sam felt Adam pass out in her arms. Frank and Joe turned around in time to see the creature that had attacked them, flee out the door, all shadow and light, back towards the city. Knowing this was unsafe, and that heading away from the city would be in their best interest, everyone gathered into their vehicles and fled even further out.

As they arrived at a small farmhouse, Sam, Frank and Joe all were told by Maria what she and Elijah had begun to suspect at the motel. Adam's power was extremely unusual; its strength was almost staggering. They knew as each soul born closer to the end was stronger than the last, they suspected that Adam was indeed the last soul ever born.

The revelation was staggering, because that meant that it was on Adam's shoulders' that all of humanity would be judged. It was on him whether the or the Torture of Hell would rule the souls and fate of all humankind.

Souls - Chapter Three - Faith and Friends

Part One

Several days pass, each hero spending as much of their free time working alongside Maria, learning the ins and out of the operation. Frank and Joe learn about the possible dangers, Joe taking an interest in how Maria finds the souled humans, and how to make contact. Sam in the meantime helps Maria with her research, helping her in trying to learn clues to the fabled ritual for the cup of souls.

As they become accustomed to what their new life entails, the heroes find themselves meeting Maria's friends, their allies in this war against time. The first to arrive are Abraham Steingard and his son Isaac. Abraham was the one who originally learned the truth of the events that are occurring now, and he is the funding behind all of their operations, money from a long line of inheritance. His son Isaac, a former Marine, has followed his father and joined his cause after witnessing the truth of things in the Middle East. Abraham and Isaac have similar physical appearances; both are strong Germanic men, sporting blond hair and green eyes. Their dispositions however are vastly different, as Abraham seems to have a more serious and dour personality, where as his son is a natural charmer, and pleasant to be around.

Maria arrives later with the last member, Elijah Engel, a former NYC Fire Fighter. This dark haired, blue eyed, man, seems to have the same equally pleasant personality of Isaac, but is more introverted, and almost shy. Maria introduces everyone and they get right down to business as to the changes needed in the group's tactics.

An argument arises over the safety of being together in numbers given past events, however it becomes generally agreed that the time for caution has passed, and events are moving faster than ever, and more openly than ever, to wait and see. They all agree a new time of action must occur.

Two important objectives are set for the group, the rescue and safety of souled humans, who appearance amongst the populous of the city seems to be increasing, and the discovery and ultimately completion of the Ritual of the Cup of Souls.

Maria informs everyone she has identified a possible souled human, a teenage cancer survivor by the name of Adam Walker. His recent miraculous recovery from a deadly form of cancer has sparked intense interest from the medical community around the world, and is a red flag in the possibility of his existence as a souled human. The heroes learn that both Elijah and Isaac are sensitive to the souls of other, and could sense their presence; Isaac's gift was more limited than Elijah's though.

Elijah at the same time informs the group that he was already on his way to NYC before the call to reunite came, as he found a solid lead on the ritual. He had finally discovered an expert Talmudic scholar, a woman who lives in a retirement home just outside the city. He believed that she could lead them closer to discovering the ritual than anything else before has.

It was decided that both were important, so the group split up. Elijah and Sam would go visit the scholar, while Joe, Frank, and Isaac, would try and discover if the kid truly had a soul. Joe, Frank and Isaac arrive at the children's hospital where Adam is staying and find to their luck, a donation drive is going on. The use the hoopla of celebration, events, and such to enter the hospital undetected and make their way to the cancer ward. When they get there, they discover Adam and his mother. Seeing as Isaac needs to get very close, Joe uses his role as a community leader to distract the mother while Isaac gets closer to the young man.

During this time, Elijah and Sam arrive at the hospital and find the woman whom Elijah said was the person who could help them. To Sam's dismay, the woman barely speaks English, understanding only a little. Elijah however is able to translate from German to English for Sam. They learn that it was not her, but her husband who was the scholar, but that he had taught her much, and that she had kept all his work. Safely tucked away in storage that only she knew where it was. She spoke how her husband died at the camp in Auschwitz.

Joe had successfully distracted Adam's mom when he noticed a young girl approach Frank, his gut dropped as he knew something was wrong about her. He saw her give Frank a balloon and went away. The three of them reunited, and Isaac confirmed that Adam indeed had a soul. They knew they had get Adam and his mom out of the hospital and to a safe place. Joe feared that something was nearby and was going to go after Adam.

As Sam and Elijah questioned the old woman, they are interrupted by the arrival of her Grandson and his wife and son. They are immediately berated and accused of taking advantage of a senile old woman. The woman argues against her grandson, Elijah translating for Sam, and they make the discovery that the Grandson is afraid they were reporters looking for a story about his grandfather, her husband, who was an SS Soldier. They agree to leave, but as they do, they both encounter the woman's great grandson, whose presence makes both of them shudder as if something was horribly wrong.

As Joe and the others try to figure out how to approach Adam and his mom, who seems to be hovering around him, Frank thinks he sees the little girl again. He follows the red balloon to a room where he finds the little girl in ICU. She immediately goes into cardiac arrest. Frank runs to find Joe, and along with Isaac, they see countless of these red balloons, and the same strange little girl near where they are being given out. Fearing the worst, they rush back to Adam's ward where they see several Code Blues being called. Not just patients, but nurses and doctors beginning to fall over from apparent heart attacks. Joe, seeing no choice, confronts Adam's mom, telling her as much as he dared to convince her to leave. It is Adam who tips the scale to Joe's side and they all leave the hospital, Adam witnessing the same strangeness that the other can see, but his mother cannot.

As Elijah and Sam wait for the family to leave, hoping to speak with the old woman again, they see the little boy, who seems focused on them. When the family finally leaves, they rush in, and are both overwhelmed by the same sense of death. They rush up to the woman's room but are too late, they find her being treated by a doctors, who are unable to resuscitate her. As she dies, they see a red balloon, the same one the little boy was holding, fly by the window. They rush downstairs but are unable to find the boy, instead they see another red balloon, and another resident collapses. Knowing it is no longer safe they, they rush back to the church.

Both groups arrive at the church around the same time. They learn from Maria that what they are facing is probably L’Enfant du Morte, the Children of the Dead. She explains their strength, and deadly powers. Adam's mother meanwhile begins to realize the strange and absurd things everyone is talking about. As she begins to panic, hoping to get son and herself away from the crazies, she begins to suffer a heart attack. Everyone realizes the children have followed them to the church. Adam begins to try to calm his mother down, aware what is near them, and seemingly able to hear what the children are saying to cause his mother's heart attack.

While he focuses on that, everyone moves into action. Joe and Isaac prepare to distract the children while Frank goes and get the van ready to get Adam and his mom out of here, knowing the children were after them. Frank encounters the little girl again, this time the string of her balloon tries to strangle him. He is able to escape and get the van ready. Adam calms his mother long enough for them along with Elijah to jump in. As they get in the van, Isaac and Joe confront the children, hoping to distract them. Frank peels the van out of the church parking and makes a run for it, meanwhile Joe and Isaac run inside as the little boy's form begins to change, and shadow tendrils begin to go after them

Frank drives hard and fast, realizing that not only is the little girl after them, according to Elijah, but seeing on the side of the road, as night begins to fall, hell hounds.

Joe, Sam and the others, however, find themselves trapped, as a the boy, or rather the creature using the little boy's image, begins to push his way through the door, ready to strike at them all.

To Be Continued....

Souls - Chapter Two - Shadow of Death

It had been a few days since the heroes encountered the horrors in the subway. Each had for their own reasons avoided bringing up what had happened, hoping to deal and cope with it in their own way.

They had returned to their daily routine, but the shadows of the countless people who died that night, along with the bizarre explanation from the stranger named Maria was too great to ignore.

"Do you buy it?" Frank finally asked the others. They had returned to all their old habits, including spending time together at Joe's bar. The trio finally discussed with each other the strange events. Rational thinking was out the window at this point. They couldn't deny to themselves the horrors they saw, doing so would be a lie, and too many people died in front of their eyes to be forgotten to a lie.

They had decided that they needed to learn more, they had to find out exactly what was going on. They had to talk with Maria again.

Frank remembered the way to the church, and led the others as they traveled through the streets of New York. It was approaching a late hour, yet the city still showed no signs of slowing down. It never really slowed down, there were always someone doing something.

As they zipped through traffic, Joe waved down Sam and Frank to pull over. He had seen someone he recognized. He wasn't sure, and he didn't want to scare the others, but he was sure he saw someone from the Subway that night. He followed his instincts and went in search of the man he knew as LeShawn.

Joe wasn't the only one to see something. Frank, keeping an eye on his friend as he entered a bodega, caught a glimpse of the back of a man, whose garb could only have been that of Michael, the kid raver. He was sure of it, Michael still had all the glow sticks on him.

Frank gave chase and Sam, not willing to be left behind, followed. They raced to the end of the block, where Frank saw Michael disappear around yet another corner. As he started to move off, Sam saw Dede, the raver girl and last to die, crossing the street as if nothing had ever happened. She chased after Dede, Frank chasing his sister, even though he was sure it was Michael he had seen.

Meanwhile Joe, expecting to find LeShawn, entered the Bodega's restroom. He caught a glimpse again of LeShawn as he entered a stall, and waited. A sense of dread was creeping in on Joe, he knew something was wrong but he was unwilling to press his luck. He waited patiently, trying to act normally, but was confused when a new person appeared and entered an empty stall, the stall Joe had watched and was sure LeShawn was in.

Frank and Sam looked for Dede but couldn't find her, nor Michael. They knew something bad was going on, and they decided to go back to find Joe. As they crossed back to where they started, Sam was bumped into. She looked at the hand and the person who apologized and recognized Dede. She stopped the woman only to see she was wrong, and the person who bumped into her looked nothing like Dede.

The trio reunited, sharing what they had thought they saw. They felt a chill amongst the three of them as they heard a little girl comment about the strange big doggie. All three looked on in horror as a pair of glowing eyes retreated into an unlit alleyway. The streets were unsafe. They needed to get to Maria fast.

They rushed to the church and came upon a surprised Maria. She had not expected them to have come to a decision so quickly. She had hoped they would accept her offer. The three of them filled them in one what had happened. Maria was not surprised. She knew that such a thing could happen. The creatures known as the Faceless, echoes of the living creatures, imprinted on the monsters that killed them, they were echoes of life made animate by evil energy. The faceless were a form of bait, luring innocent beings to force them to reveal their faces, so that the creature which made the faceless could appear and devour yet another prey.

It was when Sam mentioned that she had SEEN Dede's face that Maria started to worry. Only a souled human could become a ghost. Their spirit trapped in the world of the living unable to pass on to judgment. Maria made the horrible discovery that it was not the heroes whom the hounds hunted, but Dede.

Just then, a loud banging brought to the doorstep of the church Dede, a wounded, tired, dirty but still seemingly living Dede. Everyone jumped into action as the frantic and distraught girl was treated and medicated. She looked like she had been surviving in the tunnels, one step ahead of the creatures.

Unsure how Sam could have seen her on the streets if Dede wasn't a ghost, Maria shares that having a souls allows them to have great insight, some more than others. Dede being souled could have projected her need for help, or Sam somehow sensed her presence and saw someone who needed help.

Either way, their musings were interrupted as sounds of the creatures surrounded the church. For whatever reason, the creatures had returned, and they were above ground now, risking the lights of the city to go after their prey.

As the monsters circled and taunted, they called out to Dede, who sense that they were after her, that they wanted her. She knew she had drawn them to the Church, that she had once again put everyone around herself in danger.

Soon the faceless began attempts to draw the heroes to remote locations in the church. They baited them to leave not only Dede, but each other open to attack. Everyone tried their best to keep vigilant, but Dede's screams and turmoil only seemed to worsen the situation.

Their sense of being overwhelmed soon became a horrifying reality when darkness itself pushed in through the walls and closed in around them like slowly shrinking cage. As they tried to figure out what to do, they were all surprised at the calm that came over Dede. She understood what had come for her at least, and she thanked them. Dede walked into the darkness, reappear as she relived her death, then all of it vanished into the night.

As they all sat there dumbfounded, Maria, unable to take one more loss, pleaded with them. They had to help her. So it was decided. The trio would join the others, and they would do what they can, to not only save the quickly congregating souled humans, but also find a way to buy humanity one more chance at redemption.

But first, it was time to meet the others.

Souls - Interlude - The Plea

Escaping into the mysterious woman's van, Frank, Joe and Claudia finally catch their breaths. They take the woman's offer of alcohol and medication to calm their nerves. She introduces herself as Maria, and explains that it was her job to save them.

She drives them back to her place, where she hopes to explain to them what is going on.

They arrive at an abandoned church, a place she claims to be safe because it is on sanctified ground. Inside they discover she is well equipped, weapons, computers, and various literature on many aspects of the occult.

Maria begins to tell her story. She tells them how God had created man with the intention of only creating so many souls. That when the last soul was born and dead, the end time would come and all of man would be judged whether they gained entry into paradise or not. She exclaimed that the weight of this decision would lie in the actions of the final souls, those born last, who are a product of the countless millennia of human civilization.

However, God's greatest gift, on which he would judge man, was also it's most deadly weapon. Free will meant humanity had control over it's own destiny, and that some force out there was perverting this. She claimed that the end of humanity was polluted by evil sources, and that now, those same forces are hunting the souled ones, hoping to bring forth the end times before humanity can redeem itself.

Still confused, Maria explains that the trio are all souled human, an extremely rare gift in the modern age. She also explains that having a soul had some benefits in seeing the truth of things. It was then that she tell them the whole reason she is even sharing this with them. Humanity's free will means that there is a chance, a secret gift of God which would allow humanity a second chance. Maria and others like her, are out saving Souled human beings, not only to buy more time before the end of days, but to find the way to refill the cup of souls and to help humanity redeem itself.

The trio, overwhelmed by all the information, and skeptical, are given time to think about it. Maria leaves them in her home where they could stay until they felt safe enough to go home. She pleaded though, that they consider her offer, that they help her save humanity.

The trio rest until the afternoon, where Claudia begins to explore Maria's home. She discovers countless books of the occult, many of them works of fiction, the others barely passing for reference or non-fiction. She also discovers a wall of Polaroids, several dozen names and pictures. Claudia realizes these are the people whom Maria feels she is saving. She also find some have dates, and wonders if perhaps some of these people have died.

Her suspicions are confirmed when she discovers a scrapbook of articles, newpaper clippings, etc, of accidents, unsolved murders, all matching with the names and dates of those on the wall.

Unsure of Maria's motivations or intentions, and still skeptical about everything that just happened, Joe, Frank and Claudia decide to go back to their normal lives.

Or at least try to.

Souls - Chapter One - Subway Slaughter

Joe, Frank and Claudia find themselves with a rare thing, a night off. After convincing Joe to leave his bar for one night, the trio head out to famed Coney Island to relive the old haunts from their high school years.

After a night of fun and games, the trio finally decide to head home around 2am. The slip into the subway and like the rest of the city, find there are other still awake and still off to some unknown destination and plans. Settling down for a long ride, they notice the other riders. A trio of African American band members, performing even at this late hour for change and sympathy. A pair of candy ravers, a couple, still intoxoicated and still all over each other. A police officer on his way home, and an old woman with her very upset cat in a cat carrier.

Talking amongst themselves and winding down, their trip home is interrupted as the subway cars comes to a screeching halt. As the power flickers off, they settle in for what the conductor announces could be a significant delay. As they wait, the subway fills with noise of the band enjoying themselves, the couple's giggling, and the cat's horrible meow.

Again, the lights go out. A few moments pass before the lights come back on, and the heroes find that all is the same, except that the old woman is gone. Frank, worried, notices that the door between cars just closed. He gets up and begins to search for the old woman, thinking she has either gone to another car or maybe even off the train. As he does this, the others notice that static noise begins to randomly appear not only over the loudspeaker, but over the band's boom box. Even the candy raver girl's phone appears to give her trouble. Claudia, focused in on the cat's frantic hissing and meowing, has enough and places her coat over the cat carrier, hoping to shut the cat up.

As Frank returns to the others, the lights once again go out. This time, silence comes with the darkness. The boombox, loudspeaker, even the cat, they all go silent. A couple moments pass by, and the lights come back on. Once again, someone is missing. This time, the drummer is nowhere to be found, the door near him has recently closed shut, and his drumsticks were found, neatly placed on the bucket he was playing. Frank and the others begin to worry something is going on. As Frank goes out to see if he could find what happened to the drummer, the other begin to move closer to one another. Unable to find the drummer, Frank and the police officer, get everyone together, away from any doors and windows.

A scream breaks the silence as the candy raver girl points at a nearby blood as a thick trickle of blood is seen slowly moving down. The police officer begins to call for backup, but find he is unable to reach anyone. Meanwhile, fear and anxiety begin to overtake the others. Joe notices that the attacks only happen in darkness and he asks for the officer's flashlight, in hopes of keeping everyone safe by keeping them in the light.

The officer, needing to get in touch with his precinct, tell the others he is gonna try and use the conductor's booth to radio for help. Meanwhile, Claudia grabs the fire extinguisher and holds it tight, the only weapon she feels is available to her. The others watch as the police officer heads for the booth, Joe keeping the light on him. The lights go out again, but the police officer is safe. He opens the booth door and begins to try and contact someone, Joe keeping him as lite as possible.

The raver girl screams "Monster!" Everyone turns to see, and in that instant, the lights come back on, and the door to the conductor's booth shuts close. Fear has pushed the girl to the edge as she cries uncontrollably now. Frank and Joe decide to find out what happened to the cop. Claudia however, realizes the cat has been quiet too long. The boys find the cop dead, his body practically thrown through the subway wall into the surrounding tunnel wall. They quickly pick up his gun, a couple more flashlights and return to the others. Claudia shows them her grizzly find, the cat is mauled inside it's own cage, a puddle of blood lines the bottom.

The group, fed up with being sitting ducks decide they need to make a run for it. Armed with flashlights, several dozen glowsticks from the raver couple, they gather together and begin to move. They quickly cross into the next car, heading for the front of the train. As they move, they find themselves surrounded by the sounds of the beasts moving about them, and their breaths fogging up the windows. Over the loudspeakers, the voices of the missing and dead were heard, repeating things they had said in life.

The lights go out again, and the group hunkers down around each other. Almost 40 minutes go buy, as the various survivors get to know one another. Realizing they had to make a choice, they decide to make a run for it, instead of waiting for death to find them. As they get ready to move, the raver guy, Michael, is dragged through the shadows, despite the flashlights lighting him up. His body disappears into shadows, leaving only a trail a blood.

Ready to give up, the heroes are given a glimmer of hope as the lights come back up and train once again begins to move. Thankful that the whole ordeal is over, the singer of the band is suddenly grabbed through the window, his body being dragged out of the moving train. The others rush to help, trying to drag him back in as massive flesh like claws rip at his flesh. The train speeds up more and more, until his head is taken cleanly off as it's hit by a underground light in the tunnel.

The heroes are thrown to the ground as the train stops, the lights disappearing again. The only illumination coming from what appears to be an abandoned or shut down station. The station is in dark, save for very small bits of red emergency lights illuminating less than 5 feet around it. The last remaining members of the band, scared to his wits end, decides to make a run for it. He makes it half way through the station, before his body disappears from underneath an emergency light by several creatures.

The heroes, armed with a gun, and more flashlights, know they have no more choices. As they ready themselves to run to the hoped exit to the surface, the raver girl DeDe's sanity finally breaks, as she runs into the darkness of the train. The heroes only see the glowsticks on her body as it's thrust several times against a door, breaking through the glass and laying there limply.

The heroes break into a run, weaving between the various lit up areas. The rush past where the band member died, shooting a hound as it jumps into the light, hoping to catch them. They can hear the sounds of countless of these creatures running in the shadow alongside them.

Suddenly, they hear a voice call out a warning as bright flares light up the station like pure daylight. They briefly see the several dozen monsters that had been hunting them. Joe, the only one not stunned by the light, grabs his friends and urges them after the girl who is creating a pathway of light.

Finally crossing the bit of darkness, the heroes break through to the street, into the light of day.
