Souls Campaign Write-Up
The Souls Campaign is definetly in the top 3 of my favorite campaign concepts. It is unlike many of the campaigns I am prone to running, and at teh same time, it is perhaps the ideal campaign. The Souls Campaign is perhaps the most heavy RP campaign I have ever come up with. The entire story rests on the backs of the team members and how they react to and adapt to having their view on the world turned upside down. The campaign is designed to test these seemingly ordinary people and see if they can become extraordinary as the deadline of Revelations rushes at them.
Themes
There are very strong religious overtones in the campaign, given the background that is unavoidable. However, I didn't want to just attack the basic tenents of religion, my goal isn't to put down religion. I wanted to test the tenants of faith, I wanted to see how not only my players, but their interpretation of their characters react to the tests of good and evil. I wanted to see flip upside down the whole religious and spiritual aspects and push them to find their own definitions of where the line between good and evil actually exists.
Lastly, one of the themes I wanted to test is the concept of uniqueness, of being special. What makes a person special? What makes them great? What seperates the drone of civilization and the ones who find their own path in life? And does it matter?
The game isn't as serious all the time as it sounds, though. The new elements of horror and suspense are there as a fun factor. Facing the strange, the unknown, and trying your best to save the world, even if you disagree on how it should be saved.
The game is designed to be fun and deep. To test your ability to RP and honestly question yourself and test your luck with dice. To feel your heart beat fast as the darkness falls around your character and feel your heart break as you make a hard decision.
I love this game!
Write-Up
There is a time limit to man's existence on this earth. When God created our world, God set out for there to be only a certain number of souls to be born unto this world before the end of days. However, God's greatest gift to man, free will, has changed everything. The recent ages of man have brought wars, disease, famine and countless horrors perpetuated by man itself. We breed in greater and greater numbers and die in even more numbers.
Creativity, drive, genius, heroism and villainy, the very essences, the greatness of humanity is fading. More and more, the world becomes a place of dull greys and listless people. This is a world devoid of uniqueness, devoid of greatness, devoid of souls.
The Cup of Souls has gone empty, the last soul now walks the earth. Even before this though, there have been more people than souls upon this earth. We see the results, more and more the people around us are drones, copies, mere biology with no substance, no spark of the divine. Great and unique people, souled people are rapidly dwindling, and when the last soul dies, the end of days comes.
The players are one of the last souled humans on earth. They must find each other, and other souled people and protect them, for the apocalypse of man has been rushed ahead of schedule. Forces long forgotten make their bid for the world and for humanity's fate. Old horrors, nightmares long forgotten seek to force humanity's end before it is ready.
Player's must save themselves, and other souled humans, both good and bad, before these ancient dangers murder them. They have to buy time for there is a way to refill the Cup of Souls, a way to give humanity a second chance at redemption. They must save the world and themselves, because the zealots are right...
The End is Nigh!
